Great Sharpener for EGO Electric Chainsaw Teeth

I was looking for a sharpener for my EGO electric chainsaw, which has a 3/8" chain pitch but clearly states to use a 4.5mm file diameter (11/64") for sharpening the teeth.

This particular sharpener design (which appears to originate from Stihl) is ingenious and is getting rave reviews. Unfortunately, the only file size these sharpeners come with for a low-profile chain is the 4.0mm file diameter (5/32").

I bought the less expensive Mempa tool and a 2-pack 4.5mm diameter file set by Makita (D-75708) intending to replace the round tooth files. Upon receipt of both, it looked like I could replace the round files with the larger 4.5mm file set as EGO requires, but I would likely have to drill out some of the plastic in the holder ends. However, when I put my 3.5X magnifying headset on, I saw that the 4.0mm files (5/32") that came with this sharpener were a perfect match to the tooth curvature of my factory chain, while the larger 4.5mm files I purchased separately were actually oversized when viewed under magnification. Glad I discovered this before drilling out the holes in the holder!

I put the Mempa tool back together as received, and it worked great!

I can't explain why the 5/32" files were a much better fit for my EGO chain teeth (versus EGO's recommendation for 4.5mm file diameter (11/64")), but this tool as received worked just great for me!

The tool comes with markings on the end, which I filled in with a black Sharpie to help reinforce saw position and filing direction. I also recommend marking each tooth sharpened with a Sharpie as you go along (to be sure you actually sharpen each tooth with only one sequence) and cleaning off any debris on the files with a soft brass bristle brush in between teeth. I used my magnification headset during sharpening to ensure the tooth fit and 30-degree sharpening angle were maintained.

I used three strokes per tooth based on a video I had seen, and it worked great as a maintenance sharpening (if you have substantial tooth damage, it will obviously require more). The same video suggested putting the center of the flat bar carefully in a vice with medium pressure to stabilize the saw while sharpening, which also worked well for me.

Buy it now!!

I saw the Stihl one that looks identical. I don't normally try knock-offs, but this thing is the best sharpener, hands down. I was sharpening with a single file, and it sucked. Took forever and never really felt like it helped much. Then I bought this for around 20 bucks, and now I want a spare because it's that good. My saw is just a Stihl MS250 with an 18” bar, and after sharpening, it shoots chips behind me 6 feet! You can feel the file actually cutting perfectly. The guides line it up for you, and you just rip! It's fast, and I'd swear it cuts better than a new chain! You will not be disappointed. I actually enjoy sharpening now!

Best sharpener on the planet.

I've tried to avoid buying new chainsaw blades all the time but had trouble with sharpening tools (even electric blade sharpeners, which I found to be a hassle). This one is legit—super easy to use, and a quick couple of passes on each tooth helped my saw cut through 18-inch hardwood logs like butter. It's so nice not to have to remove the chain from the bar to sharpen it; it's even nicer to not have to replace the chain every time it gets a little dull. The guides hold it in place for accuracy, and the design allows for a quick flip of the tool to catch the opposite sets of teeth. Took about 2 minutes to use. This is gold.

Just as good as the Name Brand!

This chainsaw sharpener was a great buy! So glad I decided to go with this one instead of the name-brand one that was more expensive. It sharpened my saws perfectly! I use my chainsaws a lot, so this will get a lot of use. I would highly recommend this to anyone who uses their chainsaws regularly. The price was great, it did an outstanding job, and I couldn't be happier!

Super fast, super easy to use!

I've owned a good number of saw sharpeners. The ones that take a lot of time to set up with angle settings for elevation and side-to-side are very accurate but time-consuming and fiddly. Electric ones might sharpen well enough but take a LOT of life out of a chain to pay you back for how fast they work. You still have to come back and file the rakers separately.

The Mempa sharpener really hit the sweet spot. It's super easy to figure out and does both the tooth and the raker at the same time.

I was pretty surprised at how sharp the teeth were and how fast it worked. This will certainly be my field sharpener of choice. Well worth the money.

Ps. Make sure you get the right sharpener for the chain you're using. Each Mempa sharpener is built for one type of chain.
